We have expanded Smart Grid Interoperabilty Lab with unique facilities, equipment and resources to thoroughly analyse behaviours and characteristics of the evolving electricity systems.
The Smart Grid Interoperabilty Lab consists of five main building blocks:
- Offline power system simulation, for static and dynamic simulation of large power systems.
- Real time simulation and component testing, for dynamic analyses of combined software/hardware test grids and power hardware in the loop testing.
- Interoperability and communications, for ICT/power system interoperability testing and controller in the loop testing.
- Mobile lab and field testing, for analysing, testing and validating relevant grid functions on real demonstration projects.
- Visualisation and interaction, for dissemination and serious gaming exercises.
The Smart Grid Interoperabilty Lab is equipeed with tools, resources and capabilities to thoroughly assess and quantify features of stronger, smarter and interoperable electricity systems.
The Smart Grid Interoperabilty Lab features:
• modelling and simulation modules for the European power networks, capable of assessing contingencies and events affecting security of supply;
• real-time simulation of power grids, at both distribution and extra high voltage level;
• evaluation of grid components (from storage to information and communication technologies) and their impact on security of energy systems;
• visualisation of data and scenarios (including Geographical Information Systems – GIS);
• integration among the various Centre's components, for tackling topics requiring the combination of different resources;
• federation with external capabilities, interconnecting with other facilities, from other JRC groups (e.g. PV, fuel cells, IT networks, etc.) and/or external.
