2013 JRC Open Day and our smart grids activities!

On Saturday 4 May 2013, the JRC site in Ispra, Italy once again opened its doors to the public. The 2013 theme was 'Science for You', in line with the European Year of Citizens 2013.

Our team was present (on two different sites: the new Visitors' Centre and the conventional/electric vehicle testing laboratories) to show to visitors our interactive tools, models and flyers illustrating the latest JRC research and activities on future electricity systems and smart grids.

Many thanks to those of you who interacted with us!

You can see here a selection of photos of the event. Over 10 300 visitors followed the invitation to spend a day dedicated to science exploration and discovered how the European Commission's in-house science service helps to promote growth, jobs and innovation, a healthy and safe environment, consumer protection and secure energy supplies.

Commissioner Geoghegan-Quinn cut the ribbon of the JRC's brand new Visitors' Centre, which will enhance JRC's ability to accommodate the increasing requests for visits.

The new premises will welcome single and group visits, and give them an overview of JRC's multi-faceted activities and its role as the Commission's science service in support of Europe 2020, the EU's strategy for growth and jobs. If you did not have the chance to visit our smart grid activities at the Open Day, you can still discover them in a permanent area of the JRC Visitors' Centre. The JRC pays great attention to communicating science, and to providing practical examples of the added value of European policies to citizens of all ages.
