  • The CREAtion of the Department of Physical Chemistry of Biological SysTEms

    Project dates: 01. Oct 2015 - 31. Mar 2021

    Objective

The CREATE project is targeted at development of a new chair - Department of Physical Chemistry of Biological Systems within the structure of the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IPC) led by reputable world-class scientist (ERA Chair holder). The project predicts a number of measures to be taken by the new leader, aimed at extending research excellency of IPC into the new field (physical chemistry inspired by biology), consistent with new regional strategy of Mazovian Voivodeship. IPC has a solid research record in both - fundamental and application-oriented researches on sensors, new materials for nanotechnology, and chemical functionalization of nanomaterials. Our efforts and excellency in conducting researches were appreciated by professional investor, who set up 2 spin-off companies with IPC. IPC has brought to perfection analytical methods, used for researching physical and chemical systems. However, development capacity of these methods in these fields has almost run out and IPC lacks purpose and inspiration for further researches, able to catch up with and provide new ideas for ERA. Therefore, based on SWOT results and discussions with major stakeholders, we have decided to refocus on researching biological systems, which requires finding reputable expert in biology and establishment within IPC of the new department focused on applications of developed techniques in biological systems. Therefore, preliminary action of CREATE project is hiring an outstanding scientist to: - indicate research directions of modern quantitative biology studies within physical chemistry and consult on possible links of physical chemistry and biology, - establish cooperation with international scientific units on partner basis. The CREATE project will bring essential know-how to IPC, but also spread excellence through science-science and science-business cooperation platform, easing integration with ERA and transition into Horizon2020.

  • European Doctoral programme on ENergy and Environment

    Project dates: 01. Sep 2021 - 31. Aug 2026

    Objective

The European Doctoral Programme in Energy and Environment (EDENE) is a multidisciplinary, intersectoral and international ambitious project over a 5 years duration offering a quality training to 30 international and highly skilled PhD Fellows in the field of Energy and Environment. Since the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) obtained in 2017 the excellent label I-site (competitive Initiative Science/Innovation/Territories/Economy by the French Programme Investments for the Future) for its project Energy & Environment Solutions (E2S), UPPA’s priority is to develop international collaborations with targeted universities, to attract new talents, and to develop the international courses offer, mainly in Energy and Environment areas. Using its comparative plus points in terms of location (Pyrenean cross-border France/Spain region), UPPA developed cross-border collaborations and sound partnerships with international companies located in the south west region of France. EDENE was born from these collaborations and gathers leading expertise from a strong consortium: two universities (UPPA, University of Zaragoza), international companies (TOTAL, Enedis, Bertin, Teréga) competitive clusters (POLE AVENIA) and Technology Transfer Office (Aquitaine Science Transfert - AST). EDENE intends to address two major European Societal Challenges SC3 “Secure, clean and efficient energy” and SC5 “Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials”, by enabling promising Early Stage Researchers to achieve excellent research applied to energy and environment areas in mathematics, engineering, geosciences, aquatic environments, computer sciences, land development, treatment of economic data, or physical-chemistry.

  • ENERGY FOR FUTURE

    Project dates: 01. Jul 2021 - 30. Jun 2026

    Objective

Fundación Iberdrola España (FIBE) is the non-profit Foundation in Spain of the IBERDROLA Group (one of the most important global energy leaders with the main activities in ES, UK, US, MX and BR) and the beneficiary of the programme “ENERGY FOR FUTURE – E4F” (E4F will be used as the short description in all programme processes). E4F is within the clean and sustainable energy field (Photovoltaic and Wind Energy, Energy Storage, Smart Grids and Electric Vehicle, etc). E4F’s main objectives focus on the: (1) attraction of outstanding worldwide Experienced Researchers (ERs); (2) the improvement of the working and employment conditions; (3) development of an innovative and attractive training programme; (4) creation of an Open-Access and Open-Data research culture; and (5) possibility to provide commitment of the beneficiary FIBE and Partner Organisations with the European Charter & Code for Researchers. To achieve that, E4F will count with the participation of 19 European (ES, UK, FR and DE) and non-European (US and MX) academic and industrial partner organisations as hosting and/or secondment entities. E4F is based on a 60-months (5 years) Fellowship Programme that will recruit 28 ERs in two calls (14 ERs per call). Each postdoctoral fellowship will have a duration of 24 months, promoting mobility both between countries, and academic and industrial sector with: i) 18-21 months hosting periods; ii) 3-6 months intersectoral secondments; and iii) training and communication & dissemination activities. Noteworthy, E4F aims at the next generation of low-carbon energy technologies and energy efficiency potential, being aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Horizon Europe and the EU Green Deal programmes, and the EU Energy Roadmap 2050 targets. In addition, FIBE and all partner organizations are aware of the current COVID-19 pandemic and its associated risks (as well as other future similar issues) suggesting solutions for the implementation of E4F.

  • European Climate and Energy Modelling Forum

    Project dates: 01. May 2021 - 30. Apr 2025

    Objective

The aim of ECEMF is to provide the knowledge to inform the development of future energy and climate policies at national and European levels. In support of this aim, ECEMF proposes a range of activities to achieve five objectives and meet the four challenges set out in the call text. ECEMF’s programme of events and novel IT-based communications channel will enable researchers to identify and co-develop the most pressing policy-relevant research questions with a range of stakeholders to meet ambitious European energy and climate policy goals, in particular the European Green Deal and the transformation to a climate neutral society. Answers will be provided by the first inclusive and open full-scale model comparison exercise on achieving climate neutrality in Europe, including from the outset over 20 models and 15 top research groups, to produce a coherent and relevant evidence-base for energy and climate policy impact assessment. ECEMF’s evidence-base will support the development of policy-relevant insights which will be communicated to and discussed with the key decision makers via a range of novel methods, including interactive embeddable visualisation blocks, policy briefs, workshops and high-profile events. This loop of knowledge co-production stands on two pillars. First, ECEMF will advance the state-of-the-art of energy and climate modelling by enabling sharing of: input data using open standards, methods for model comparison building on the vast experience of the consortium, scientific software tools such as the IIASA scenario explorer and hands-on training for researchers. Second, ECEMF will be established as a long-term, open and welcoming European focal-point for researchers and policy makers with unparalleled international connections to the EMF, JMIP, IAMC and IPCC. Through extensive links to ongoing H2020 projects, research and policy communities & networks ECEMF will reduce fragmentation of the European energy and climate research landscape.
