IEC 61897:2020 RLV contains both the official IEC International Standard and its Redline version. The Redline version is available in English only and provides you with a quick and easy way to compare all the changes between the official IEC Standard and its previous edition.
IEC 61897:2020 applies to aeolian vibration dampers intended for single conductors or earth wires or conductor bundles where dampers are directly attached to each subconductor. The purchaser may adopt part(s) of this document when specifying requirements for cables different from those mentioned above (e.g. optical ground wires (OPGW), all dielectric self-supporting optical cables (ADSS)). In some cases, test procedures and test values are left to agreement between the purchaser and the supplier and are stated in the procurement contract. Annex A lists the minimum technical details to be agreed between purchaser and supplier. Throughout this document, the word “conductor” is used when the test applies to dampers for conductors or earth wires. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 1998. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) Consider, in addition to Stockbridge type aeolian vibration dampers, also spiral aeolian vibration dampers and elastomeric aeolian vibration dampers.
b) Consider the application of dampers on high temperature conductors, specifying additional high temperature tests in clamp slip tests.
c) Simplify the procedure of the damper effectiveness evaluation.
d) Introduce test at low temperature on fastener components such as break away bolts and conical spring washers.
e) Include figures showing the test arrangements for the main mechanical tests. -

– system studies and calculations,
– protection against electrical faults,
– lighting,
– energy control, monitoring and alarm systems, and
– turret/swivel.
This document gives information and guidance on topics such as
– applicable examples of HVDC VSC technology, and
– guidelines for illumination level.
This document does not apply to
– fixed equipment for medical purposes,
– electrical installations of tankers, and
– control of ignition sources other than those created by electrical equipment.
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2012. This edition constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) the requirement for sources of electrical power has been rewritten. Requirements both for manned and unmanned units are given. Requirements for essential services of electrical power have been added;
b) the requirement in relation to dead start has been added;
c) the requirement for emergency stop for motor-driven fuel-oil transfer and fuel-oil pressure pumps has been added;
d) general requirements regarding cables and wiring systems have been added;
e) the description of unit interfaces to electrical transmission systems has been included;
f) requirements in relation to energy control, monitoring and alarm system have been rewritten;
g) new clauses regarding swivel/turret and unmanned facilities have been added;
h) informative annexes regarding the following have been added:
– essential source of electrical power;
– emergency source of electrical power;
– applicable examples of HVDC VSC technologies;
– swivel/turret;
– power sources for unmanned units, with separate or combined main and emergency switchboard;
– alternative power sources of electrical power – general requirements;
– illumination level;
– enhanced software simulation;
– architecture for energy control, monitoring and alarm system.Technology -

Technical committeeTypeAcronymIEC 61869-9CommitteePublished year2016Description
IEC 61869-9:2016 is a product family standard applicable to instrument transformers with digital output. The product standard is composed of IEC 61869-1 and IEC 61869-6, in addition to this standard and the relevant product specific standards in the IEC 61869 series (Part 7, Part 8, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14, and Part 15). This standard defines requirements for digital communications of instrument transformer measurements. It is based on the IEC 61850 series, UCA international users group document Implementation guideline for digital interface to instrument transformers using IEC 61850-9-2, and the relevant parts of IEC 60044-8 that are replaced by this standard. It includes additional improvements including the IEC 61588 network based time synchronization. This first edition replaces the corresponding specific requirements previously contained in IEC 60044-8, published in 2002. This International Standard contains specific requirements for electronic low power instrument transformers (LPIT) having a digital output. However, the reader is encouraged to use its most recent edition. This publication contains an attached file in the form of a .xml file. This file is intended to be used as a complement and does not form an integral part of the publication.

Technical committeeTypeAcronymIEC 61869-6CommitteePublished year2016Description
IEC 61869-6:2016(E) is a product family standard and covers only additional general requirements for low-power instrument transformers (LPIT) used for a.c. applications having rated frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz covering MV, HV and EHV or used for d.c. applications. This product standard is based on IEC 61869-1:2007, in addition to the relevant product specific standard. This part of IEC 61869 does not cover the specification for the digital output format of instrument transformers. This part of IEC 61869 defines the errors in case of analogue or digital output. The other characteristics of the digital interface for instrument transformers are standardised in IEC 61869-9 as an application of the standards, the IEC 61850 series, which details layered substation communication architecture. This part of IEC 61869 considers additional requirements concerning bandwidth. General Requirements; however, the reader is encouraged to use its most recent edition. This first edition of IEC 61869-6 cancels and replaces the relevant parts of IEC 60044-7, published in 1999, and of IEC 60044-8, published in 2002.
