MEAN4SG

Project full name:
Metrology Excellence Academic Network for Smart Grids
MEAN4SG will educate 11 young researchers in the Smart Grids metrology field by constructing a training network gathering the whole innovation value chain. The overall MEAN4SG research programme tackles the main research challenges in the smart grids metrology field identified by the European R&D community: 1.power quality analysis, 2.smart grids modelling and management, 3.advanced monitoring through Phasor Measurement Units applications and 4.smart cable diagnosis. These main goals have been divided into eleven specific objectives, which will be assigned to the fellows, for them

MIGRATE

Project full name:
Massive InteGRATion of power Electronic devices
To develop and validate innovative, technology-based solutions in view of managing the pan-European electricity system experiencing a proliferation of Power Electronics (PE) devices involved in connecting generation and consumption sites. The project will contribute to the transition towards an HVAC electricsy stem where all generation and consumption is connected via 100% PE. Within MIGRATE, European TSOs from Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and UK have joined with manufacturers and universities/research centres to address such challe

WiseGRID

Project full name:
Wide scale demonstration of Integrated Solutions for European SmartGrid
WiseGRID will provide a set of solutions and technologies to increase the smartness, stability and security of an open, consumer-centric European energy grid.

ERIGrid

Project full name:
European Research Infrastructure supporting Smart Grid Systems Technology Development, Validation and Roll Out
Renewable energy sources are key enablers in the endeavor to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and cope with the anthropogenic global warming. The intermittent behaviour of renewable energy sources and their limited storage capabilities present new challenges to power system operators in the maintenance of power quality and reliability. However, the increased availability of advanced automation and communication technologies has also provided new intelligent solutions to meet these challenges.

RealValue

Project full name:
Realising Value from Electricity Markets with Local Smart Electric Thermal Storage Technology
RealValue aims to demonstrate how local small-scale energy storage, optimised with advanced ICT, could bring benefits to market participants throughout the EU. Smart Electric Thermal Storage (SETS) will be deployed in physical demonstration trials in 1250 homes in Germany, Latvia and Ireland but the analysis will also consider other storage technologies and energy vectors, including integration with district heating and micro-generation. SETS is a direct replacement for existing electric thermal storage heaters and water tanks with a combined load of 55GW across the EU.

IndustRE

Project full name:
Innovative Business Models for Market Uptake of Renewable Electricity unlocking the potential for flexibility in the Industrial Electricity Use
The flexibility of the industrial electricity demand has been identified as a potential that through innovative business models can facilitate further growth of variable renewable energy, while reducing the industrial electricity costs and contributing to the European energy policy goals. In this project the large industry is working with the renewable energy community to identify and implement business models for supplying variable renewable electricity to industrial users with flexibility in their demand, creating win-win situations.

UPGRID

Project full name:
Real proven solutions to enable active demand and distributed generation flexible integration, through a fully controllable LOW Voltage and medium voltage distribution grid
UPGRID is a project under the European H2020 program that relies on 19 partners from 7 European countries, and 4 demonstrators (Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Poland) supported by different transversal work packages that define the demo scope and analyse their results and impacts based on the project objectives. It involves partners with different expertise in the energy field: DSOs, equipment manufacturers and research centres. UPGRID project proposes an open, standardised and integral improvement of the LV/MV (mainly LV) grid addressing the constraints and needs of the more relevant actors.

NOBEL GRID

Project full name:
New Cost Efficient Business Models for Flexible Smart Grids
Nobel Grid objective is to provide new tools and ICT services for all actors of the electricity distribution grid and retail market, providing more secure and stable Smart Grids and cleaner and affordable energy. Nobel Grid began on January 1, 2015, and is planned to have a duration of 42 months.

SMARTSPACES

Project full name:
Saving Energy in Europe’s Public Buildings Using ICT
In SMARTSPACES, ICT-based services for public buildings have been evaluated across Europe. Almost 600 buildings were equipped with the ICT-solution. The services are designed to evaluate the impact on overall energy consumption in public buildings (non-residential). Energy efficiency investments are a cost-effective means for decreasing energy consumption, reducing energy bills and reducing the likelihood for energy poverty. The SMARTSPACES solution offers Energy Management (EMS) and energy Decision Support and Awareness services (EDSS). The solution is based on ICT and smart metering.

ICE-WISH

Project full name:
Demonstrating through Intelligent Control (smart metering, wireless technology, cloud computing, and user-oriented display information), Energy and Water wastage reductions In European Social Housing
The objective of this demonstration project is to design, integrate and pilot an innovative solution for social housing, using mature and interactive ICT, to enable sustained reductions of energy and water consumption of at least 15% below the current practice, without compromising living conditions, across 300 social dwellings in 10 European countries, with latitudes ranging from 56oN to 38oN.
