Brief description and/or other information regarding the project: 
<p>Gotland is an island in the Baltic Sea with approximately 60.000 inhabitants, which is connected to the mainland power distribution system by use of a high voltage direct current cable. Due to favorable weather conditions Gotland has a large, and growing, wind power production. During limited periods of peak production Gotland even deliver renewable power to mainland Sweden. Situations with vulnerable and unstable grid conditions due to the intermittent nature of wind power has, however, already become evident and within a near future the hosting capacity (based on maximum production and minimum consumption) will be reached.</p> <p>The objective of project Smart Grid Gotland is to use most of the currently known smart grid technology to convert an existing, conventional, distribution system into a full-scale smart grid, in order to:</p> <p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Show that the hosting capacity can be increased</p> <p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Improve the power quality</p> <p>-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Introduce a possibility for customers to interact with the electricity market</p> <p>The project involve two substations, four wind power plants and about 2800 existing customers (mainly households) in a rural part of Gotland. Besides the upgrading of supervision and control of, especially the low voltage grid, the project intends to introduce, households and enterprise customers, to participate in a market test</p>
