Fit for 55: A major step towards a decarbonized EU by 2050.

Making Europe the first climate neutral continent in the world and making the European Green Deal a reality is the goal.

As an important step to help achieve this, the European Commission has released on 14 July 2021 the anticipated 'Fit for 55 Package'. This legislative package comprises a dozen revised and new pieces of legislation on multiple different topics (energy efficiency, renewables, transport, emissions trading and reduction, etc.), to reach the CO2 reduction targets of 55% below 1990 levels by 2030.

The benefits of a cost-effective and efficient energy transition will have positive impacts for both businesses and citizens across all EU Member States.

The new "Fit for 55" proposals are a stepping stone in the process of reform that will aim to align the EU's laws and policies with its overall climate targets. Many details will likely change before the reforms are adopted as negotiations will now begin between the EU's executive branch, member state governments and the European Parliament.
