The Italian demo of OSMOSE project tested different kinds of flexibility solutions in a 9 month long experimentation on a real HV grid portion: one of this is the flexibility from the grid itself! By exploiting accurate load and generation forecasts and cost effective Dynamic Thermal Rating solutions, a new Energy Management System was developed in order to detect and solve efficiently congestions in a 3 hours ahead horizon. It is widely understood that this will rely on: The massive use of renewables for electricity and heating & cooling generation; Smart Grids technologies (Digitalisation and Smart control of flexible generation and demand, sustainable buildings); The combination of the above with sector coupling of all energy carriers via storage (such as batteries, by use of liquids (e.g. hydro pumping), CO2-neutral or CO2-free gases) and conversion technologies (for extensive use of carbon neutral gases and green fuels and possibly hydrogen in industry, transport and buildings); A widely adopted circular approach of the energy systems, with high recycling rates The EU “Green Deal” and related European national requirements set precise targets by 2030 in terms of: Decarbonisation of building stock, transport, industry, and energy systems; Involvement of consumers and citizen communities in energy systems; Digitalisation as an enabler of the environmental transition and participative energy markets; Reliability, adaptability and resilience of the integrated energy systems. The speakers will lead you towards two demonstration activities part of the OSMOSE project concerning off-the-shelf inverters interfacing energy storage systems with the power grid that can be turned into grid-forming units through suitable control upgrades in order to provide several services to the power system when it hosts massive amount of inverter-based renewable/stochastic generation. This is achieved thanks to the provision of synchronisation services superposed to classic regulation ones. More information here. Online pantera admin@example.com UTC public

The new CEF Energy window complements other EU renewable energy funding opportunities, focusing specifically on cross-border cooperation to optimise national efforts for deployment of renewable energy. To be eligible for financing, cross-border projects should first be qualified and included in the “list of cross-border projects in the field of renewable energy”, also known as the CB RES List. During the info day on 10 March, CINEA will explain the characteristics of the call, the context, the criteria and some tips and trick to prepare a good application. Read more here. Removing and storing more carbon, from the atmosphere, oceans and coastal wetlands, is essential to achieve the EU's legally binding commitment to become climate neutral by 2050. In December 2021, the Commission adopted the Communication “Sustainable Carbon Cycles” that outlines EU-wide actions to scale up carbon farming initiatives and industrial solutions in order to sustainably capture, store and recycle carbon. By the end of 2022, the Commission will propose an EU regulatory framework for the certification of carbon removals based on robust and transparent carbon accounting rules to monitor and verify the authenticity and environmental integrity of carbon removals. A Call for Evidence will also be launched in January. On 31 January, public authorities, industry representatives and civil society will gather to exchange on the role and potential of carbon removals in the EU, feeding into the discussion on the upcoming regulatory framework for their certification. The conference will take place online. High-level speakers include Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans, Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski, French Minister for Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili and French Minister for Agriculture Julien Denormandie. Furthermore, more technical topics will be discussed during four panel sessions with the participation of experts and relevant stakeholders. Find out more on sustainable carbon cycles.
