The Energy Demand Research Project (EDRP) was a major and unique suite of trials carried out in Great Britain. They investigated over 60,000 households’ responses to improved feedback on their energy use. It was a government initiative test responses to feedback on energy use and smart metering.

Today, there are largely no communications infrastructure deployments in European medium and low voltage power distribution networks. Powerline communications have a large potential to enable new and intelligent applications to and from the last branch of the distribution grid.

Dispower has developed new methodologies. components and tools for planning. operational control. training. forecast and trading for the reliable and costeffective integration of distributed generation and renewable energies.

The Data Exchange was established to identify an enduring solution to the interaction between the STC and Grid Code regarding the exchange of User data.

While network management and demand response technologies exist and are welldocumented. they have not been deployed at distribution level in a market with the degree ofvertical separation of Great Britain (GB). This project will provide the knowledge andexperience to bridge this gap.

The project is being run in two phases: Phase 1: the CryoGenset pilot demonstrator has been commissioned for six months and runs on a regular basis exporting electricity to the National Grid. Phase 2: the fully integrated CryoEnergy System. We are currently integrating the liquefier and aim to be running a fully integrated pilot plant during early 2011.

Manage EV charge scheduling based on predicted user needs, to avoid peak load charging, optimise the use or excess renewable generation, extend the vehicles usable battery life and reduce the cost of charging for the end user.

The proposals will demonstrate the integration of a number of smart grid components within an established infrastructure and will facilitate the development of solutions in a number of areas including power quality, HV/LV automation, auto-sectionalising / load-transfer etc.

Electricity North West has been granted around £10 million from Ofgem’s Low Carbon Network (LCN) Fund to develop its ground-breaking Capacity to Customers (C2C) initiative which aims to:1. Release previously untapped emergency network capacity for everyday use 2. Enable customers to make savings by changing the way you use electricity 3. Prevent huge infrastructure improvement costs being passed on to customers 4.
