Brief description and/or other information regarding the project:
For realizing the smart city vision, integrated energy and infrastructure planning is needed, both on city and urban quarter level. Furthermore, social aspects and human behavior have to be considered. Within a pilot project funded by the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund, an integrated smart cities planning methodology has been tested out in practice. During one year of project work, a smart city vision, a roadmap and an action plan have been developed, using this approach. The project area has been Liesing Mitte in Vienna (size of 700 ha; twice as large as the city centre; further information: www.smartcityliesing.at). Employing this 'triple-smart'- approach, the necessary action areas as well as additional horizontal measures have been identified to achieve the agreed long-term goals. Furthermore, the strategic objective of setting up an international consortium of cities together with Copenhagen, Hamburg, Amsterdam and Grand Lyon has been achieved. This consortium has successfully prepared a project proposal for the first European smart cities call, together with other partners and cities (TRANSFORM; Topic 8.8.1/FP7 call).
