NINES

The objectives of the Northern Isles New Energy Solutions (NINES) project will be met by the introduction of a number of innovative solutions. These solutions will further enhance Shetland’s position as a leader in the development of new energy technology whilst delivering a reliable, safe and sustainable energy supply.The project aims to:- Reduce customers’ energy consumption through promotion and installation of more efficient heating systems in a number of domestic homes across the Islands;- Reduce the maximum peak demand through more efficient control whilst maintaining security of supply; and- Facilitate an increase in the proportion of electricity that comes from renewable sources by substituting thermal generation with renewable generation.
