Brief description and/or other information regarding the project:
The Nice Grid project, located in Carros on the Var plain in the urban community of Nice-Côte d’Azur, aims to set up a “smart” solar district demonstrator. Funded both by the GrandEmprunt (national loan scheme) and European Grid4EU project funds, Nice Grid will takeplace in several zones: residential, industrial and social housing. It will involve 1,500 customers (residential, business and public building) equipped by Linky meters. The NiceGrid project addresses several issuesraised by the smart grids concept, with a twofoldapproach (technical and economical)• Optimized operation of a medium and low-voltagegrid, incorporating massive generation of decentralizedand intermittent renewable energy (mainlyphotovoltaic); in particular, a study of levers tocontrol low voltage grid (LV).• A study of the behaviour of customers regardingtheir management of generation and use of electricity:peak demand shaving (via Linky or a box),tariff incentives, data management, control of uninterruptiblepower supplies (combined with photovoltaicor batteries).• temporary islanding in case of an emergency; studythe technical issues and assessment of the costs.• Battery storing energy at different points of thegrid (primary substations, secondary substations,in customers’ homes) to provide more flexibilityin absorbing intermittent generation and handlepeaks in demand. With the Nice Grid demonstrator, ERDF is studyinghow a smart grid contributes to balance consumptionand production in an electricalpeninsula region.'
