M2RES aims at recovering marginal areas as for example landfills, mines, former military sites/supply-storages and contaminated areas, through investments in renewable energy sources. The project is co-financed by the EU on the framework of South East Europe Programme 2007-2013. The project is co-financed by the EU on the framework of South East Europe Programme 2007-2013. The project shows the participation of many partners from the European Union (Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria) and from countries involved in the pre-accession process (Montenegro, Serbia, Albania)The project includes relevant public actors with high experience both in energy sectors and in local activities:National and regional agencies for energy: experience in policy making and in strategies for development;Research Centres: high experience in RES technologies;Chambers of Commerce: contribution to the development of RES market;Local Public Administration: providing important data and urban planning tools;Banks: potential sponsor for pilot projects and assure a financial point of view for all the activities.M2RES wants to give impetus to the sustainable development of the European Union, generating economic and social value for areas which suffer for marginality, having lost their primary functions. The turning key will be to change them into platforms for the production of renewable energy. Through public-private partnerships M2RES will process 40 pilot proposals of M2RES investments; select the best ten pilot proposals and supply assistance on them to public administrations (up to the stage of the publication and the evaluation of the tenders) and promote at least 2 of these 10 pilot projects within M2RES as models to be emulated.
